Yale Bench

2011, Yale University Art Gallery

This bench was commissioned by the Yale University Art Gallery in 2011 for use within its galleries, under the auspices of the Doran Artist in Residence Fellowship.

My design prototype was full-size and in two versions: solid cherry wood with and without leather cushions. Constructed by traditional joinery in reference to New England furniture, the choice of material and form was intended to complement Louis Kahn’s architectural space. The finished

bench was built by Tim Fagan, with leather cushions by Winter Session.
